Watching shoes take shape in the workshop is like making a journey back in time, one that is as fascinating as it is exciting. Many a pair of shoes has been made since the first sewing machine was purchased in 1948.
Technology has improved, additional machines have been brought in and craftsmanship has been passed from generation to generation. In some ways though it seems as though time has stood still. The craftsmanship and pride inherent in each pair of shoes – and the sensuousness of touching them -- are the same as they were in the early days of the shoemaker’s shop.
Keros were the first shoemakers to use machines in making their Sámi-style peaked shoes – and the only shoemakers to have always been part of the history of peaked shoes.
Kero Original is the northernmost shoemaker still operating in Sweden.
